The sculptor opens his studio to the public

Any art lover dreams of the chance to see his favorite artist at work and to find out how the pieces he passionately loves are created. And when this occasion occurs, it is often a unique and unforgettable experience. Many lovers of Lladró enjoyed this rare privilege last October during the tour undertaken by the sculptor Ernest Massuet of several US towns and cities. The tour began in the Californian cities of Thousand Oaks, Sacramento and Concord, continuing in Tulsa (Oklahoma), Chicago (Illinois) and Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), and ending up in Timonium and Rockville, both in Maryland.

Each one of the events recreated the studio environment in which the artist usually works in The City of Porcelain, thus allowing the public to get a truthful idea of how a Lladró sculpture comes to life step by step. Besides, Lladró lovers had the chance to chat with the artist, to ask questions and to exchange opinions with him. For the occasion, Ernest modeled Precious Angel, one of his most successful creations. But the events also provided an opportunity to showcase Massuet’s most recent creation, Sunset at the Pier, an evocative contemporary scene combining high realism in the details with a calm air of peace and meditation.

Ernest Massuet is a young artist with a solid academic background who has been working at the studios of The City of Porcelain since 1997. His hands have created such popular and cherished pieces as You’re My Angel, Lord Ganesha, the High Porcelain sculpture Arabian Pure Breed or the pieces in the Humanitas collection. His trip around the US is part of the program of tours Lladró sculptors are making in various countries which will be continued shortly with Ignacio Aliena’s tour of the UK at the end of November.
