Lladro 01009767 Baby Snake

Weight 1.3 lb
Finished Gloss and Matte
Height (in): 6.299
Width (in): 4.724
Length (in): 4.331
Sculptor Raul Rubio

Porcelain creation inspired by the Snake, one of the 12 signs in the Chinese zodiac.

Baby Snake belongs to the Baby Animals collection, a charming fun version of the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac. The animals which have the power to shape the character and even the fate of people born under their influence are portrayed from a more child-like optic. These depictions bring us closer to the age-old tradition of Chinese culture, with all its mystery and fascination, in a highly personal way.

Baby Snake is notable for the expressive face and the intensity of its gaze. The twisted body of the snake and the scales of its skin showcase the sculptural work and highly detailed ornamentation. White was chosen for the decoration, except for the large eyes which are painted a deep black color to accentuate the expressiveness. Another noteworthy detail is that the piece alternates glazed scales with others in a matte finish, which is achieved by softly eliminating the glaze with a small sponge. This application of little touches makes each Baby Snake unique and unrepeatable.

In China, people born under the sign of the Snake (1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025) are believed to be very intuitive, intelligent, materialist, courageous and communicative. The Chinese zodiac, also known as Sheng Xiao, is an integral part of Chinese culture. This system of astrology is based on a twelve-year cycle, each one represented by an animal with its own symbolism and characteristics.

Height (in): 7.087
Width (in): 4.331
Length (in): 5.118
Finished Gloss and Matte

Porcelain creation inspired by the Dragon, one of the 12 signs in the Chinese zodiac.

Baby Dragon is the opening piece in the Baby Animals collection, a version of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac created from a more naïve, tender-hearted, and endearing perspective. Worth underscoring in this interpretation of the only mythological animal in the Chinese zodiac is the sculptural and ornamental work, which recreates the morphology and scales of the dragon’s skin with high precision. White was chosen for the whole decoration, with the sole exception of the eyes which are painted a deep black color in order to heighten the expressiveness. Another interesting feature is that the piece alternates areas of glazed and matte scales, an effect achieved by eliminating the glaze with a small soft sponge. This application of a very gestural technique with tiny strokes means that each Baby Dragon creation has a special unique finish. In China, people born under the sign of the Dragon (1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024) are called dragon babies and are believed to be imaginative, kind, vital and energetic.
