Lladró has taken inspiration from the warriors of Japanese premodern era to create an imposing sculpture that expresses the qualities that defined these protective guardians: restraint and strength. Samurai Warrior is made of stoneware, an ideal material for large creations, and decorated with enamels. When crystallised in the oven, these pigments take on a wealth of nuances that are different in each piece, so that each figure is unique and cannot be replicated. The piece is completed by the decorators' work on the armour, the helmet and the saya, engraved entirely by hand.

A representation of its supreme power over all creatures in oriental mythology, Protective Dragon is a High Porcelain creation, in a limited edition of 777 units to commemorate Lladró’s seven decades. A symbol of strength, protection and good luck, this legendary being, existing in ancient oriental cultures, wards off evil spirits, protects the innocent and provides safety to all those who possess it. This special edition stands out for its striking decoration, with a special mention for the golden luster combined with details in blue and red enamels. The hundreds of scales covering the dragon’s skin are minutely hand-painted one by one. The undulating shape of this complex sculpture is reminiscent of the figure eight, the number of good luck in oriental culture.

Porcelain sculpture of a powerful dragon in the signature geometric style of the Origami collection.

This impressive porcelain dragon, in a limited edition of 777 units to commemorate Lladró’s seven decades, is the latest addition to the Origami collection. The most majestic creature from ancient oriental culture is a universal symbol of power, fortune and good luck. Natural mineral pigments were used in the decoration, coated with a fine layer of metallic oxide to intensify the predominant red color. This tonality is further enhanced by the contrast of the golden details in the finish of the piece. Like the rest of the pieces in the Origami collection, this is a contemporary, innovative vision of the traditional Japanese art of origami, in which the geometric shapes produced by folding paper are transformed into facets with great sculptural and decorative impact.

These guardian lions are inspired by the traditional statues that flank the doors and gates to palaces, temples and noble houses in various oriental countries. Lladró has dressed these creatures in profusely ornamented armor. Normally guardian lions did not wear armor but Lladró included the breastplates to reinforce the protective mission of the lions, adding to their fierce appearance. The green enamels used to decorated these lions underlines the connection with Oriental culture.
